Depok, July 16, 2026 – Center of Information Technology Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia (UIII) has successfully completed the deployment of a new firewall system within the campus area. This strategic infrastructure upgrade is designed to significantly enhance network security and ensure a safer browsing environment for the academic community.

A firewall is a network security system that acts as the first line of defense in protecting IT infrastructures from various cyber threats, such as unauthorized access, malware, ransomware, and data breaches. It controls all incoming and outgoing network traffic to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of university systems and services.

This recent deployment is a direct continuation of the Center of Information Technology broader network security initiative. Previously, the team successfully installed a robust firewall system at the Jatiluhur Data Center.

The two firewall installations serve distinct, complementary purposes within the university’s IT ecosystem:

  • Jatiluhur Data Center Firewall: Dedicated to safeguarding UIII’s core network traffic and critical application services against external cyber attacks and intrusions.

  • UIII Campus Area Firewall: Specifically deployed to protect and filter the internet access traffic of students, faculty, and staff connected to the campus network.

The on-campus physical installation and configuration were carried out by the IT network team inside the NetCenter, located in Room SS1. To properly integrate the new security hardware into the existing network topology, a temporary disruption of internet services was necessary.

The technical execution required a brief network downtime across the campus area. The team scheduled the cutover for the late afternoon to minimize disruption to academic activities.

  • Maintenance Start: 17:00 WIB

  • Service Restored: 17:34 WIB

The installation was completed efficiently, with all campus internet services fully recovering and operating behind the newly established security perimeter within 34 minutes. Center of Information Technology UIII continues to monitor the network to ensure optimal performance and security for all users.
